I welcome September every year wholeheartedly. I love that the days start to get cooler and that I get to enjoy being outside in nice temperate weather during the days and cool crisp sweater weather nights. The full moon just happens to be this week too! This year the September full moon is the corn moon which is of course because it’s the time of year to harvest and enjoy fresh corn on the cob. My grandpa Bohman always grew the sweetest corn and my grandma would make us pots full to devour fresh and then would freeze some for the winter months.

Favorite Finds this Week

  • I’m loving this sweater.

  • If you’re into comfort these jeggings are surprisingly better in person, even the colors are better in real life!

It’s My Birthday!

This week is my BIRTHDAY week! Sept 4th to be exact. Yes, I’m a Labor Day weekend baby. Growing up we gathered for family reunions on July 4th since it was my grandpa’s birthday. This year, now that my kids are grown I’ve declared Labor Day weekend our official family reunion weekend.

Losing My Mom

I was wondering when that transition from one generation to the next would happen and it happened very unexpectedly to me this year. My mother passed away Mother’s Day weekend every quickly and unexpectedly. She went in for gallbladder surgery and was sent home with 3 days to 2 weeks to live. They found stage 4 cancer was riddled throughout her body. It was just over 2 years since she had beaten stage 2 cervical cancer and we didn’t see it coming. She only made it 2 1/2 days. We were very blessed that the travel ban was lifted on May 1st and my sisters from Vermont were able to make it here to say goodbye. I never expected to suddenly be the matriarch of the family so young. We thought we had another good 25-30 years with my mom considering her parents passed in there 90’s. All I can say is this… I was so nieve and ignorant to what it is like losing someone so close to you. If you are wondering what to say to someone who loses a loved one, say anything. Really anything. The mere acknowledgment that you see them and that they are in mourning is better than nothing. I promise it is so important! I will be forever changed.

Pumpkin Spice & Fall Baking!

Speaking of my mom, she was a pretty good baker as you can see from my birthday cake above. In the fall she would make Apple Peanut Butter Cookies and Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies. They were a hit with all her grandkids. Stay tuned for both of those recipes coming next week!

Until then I hear that Krispy Kreme has a yummy selection of Pumpkin Spice flavored doughnuts and that Starbucks is in full pumpkin spice mode. You can even order a Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino even though it’s not on the menu and it tastes like you’re drinking pumpkin pie!

If you’re in the mood for baking my mom’s/grandma’s Banana Nut Bread is the best recipe you will ever make for Banana Bread. I promise!

A Year of Family Recipes

This whole year starting with my birthday weekend I will be sharing our Favorite Family Recipes from my mom and grandma. There are some really good ones! You are going to love making them for your family too!
