Back in August I bought a bottle of vintage German Glass Glitter at my favorite antique store to make these pretty stars for our Christmas tree. It is made from simple vintage items I have collected over the years and a paper mache star from the craft store.
Gather the items needed.
- paper mache ornaments {found at most craft shops}
- craft glue
- paint brush
- thin silver garland
- German Glass Glitter {if you can not find glass glitter a good glitter from the craft store works fine}
- small beads
- green craft velvet
Mix three parts glue to one part water and mix. Brush glue over star with paint brush.
Sprinkle glitter over star catching excess glitter in container. Caution glass glitter is glass do not get near eyes or rub on hands. Allow to dry for about 15 minutes.
While glue is drying take silver tinsel garland and shape into a wreath. The vintage silver tinsel I used is wired to so I twisted the ends together. If yours doesn't have wire simply glue ends together. Next, cut out small holly leaves from craft velvet. I used some vintage 1950's larger green velvet holly leaves since they have a lovely leaf veining and texture to them. Any green velvet will do well. Next, glue the tiny holly leaves to top of your wreath and then top with three small glass beads. Once dry glue wreath to the top of your glass glitter star.
This is a very inexpensive and easy craft. Each star cost about $2 to make with the finest vintage materials. There are many paper mache ornament shapes and many German Glass glitter colors available to coordinate with your tree. Our pink German Glass Glitter stars looks lovely along with my vintage Glass Ornaments on the Christmas tree.

So cute! I can't wait to make one. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to make. I think I am going to get some more glitter and different shapes, maybe some hearts.
